Oblivion Ctd On Startup
So today I finally purchased Oblivion from steam. I tested it, just to make sure it works knowing that I was going to mod it.
The game worked fine, and I started downloading mods. After I downloaded some mods, I tested the game again to see if it still worked. The game was fine, apart from some graphics settings I wanted to change. I downloaded a few more mods, and tested the game again. This time, it didn't work. It crashed as soon as I clicked 'Play' from the launcher.I checked it with LOOTI cleaned it with TES4EditI verified integrity of cacheI tried DISABLING ALL MODSLOAD ORDER. As you are learning, if you take a working game, install one single mod and find it doesn't work any longer it's a fairly simple matter to figure out where to start troubleshooting.
Invariably, the install a bunch and hope method is fraught with time consuming problems to try and figure out.The only time to install more than one mod at a time is when the mod description and install instructions specify that another mod is required first, and even then I'd advise installing that required mod and then test before moving on to the one that required it (the exception to that rule is when only the ESM from the required mod is required).Don't use DarN but I'm pretty sure your situation has been in it's mod comments. If you install mods which require OBSE, you can still play Oblivion without OBSE.Simply, those mods won't work: when Oblivion doesn't recognize a command, the game won't crash, but the script will be stopped. The game may even crash as indirect consequence of the stopped script, but not before the title screen, because scripts don't run at all before it.If the game crashes before the title screen, then a missing OBSE is not the cause.
Even after deleting and installing again, the game still crashes on startup. This time I delete the entire Oblivion directory after. Oblivion CTD on Startup. posted in Oblivion Technical Support: Alright, so I just started a fresh install, erased all my saves, and completely deleted the entire Bethesda folder. However, when I finally restarted, it started crashing on startup. Now heres the catch: If I let it startup without the spacebar, then it crashes at the bethesda logo.
Maybe a bad OBSE installation, but a crash on startup (before the first loading screen) always means a problem with the mods, the DirectX, a bad Oblivion installation or a bad 'Oblivion.ini' (the one in Documents/My Games/Oblivion).Edited by forli, 02 February 2015 - 12:18 AM.
I played elder scrolls IV Oblivion for many hours straight with absolutely no problem, now all of a sudden, the game keeps crashing every few minutes or so. If you try to go into your inventory, change your spells, the game crashes back into desktop and a window pops up saying 'this program has stopped responding'.This is very disappointing.I know of issues with mods and not using the correct Script Extender.exe.Other issues I had was which was fixed by the Bowreach mod where drawing out certain weapons or spells will lead to crashes and BSOD.Contact the Bethesda Softworks official site, visit the Oblivion sub forum and post the problem there.I will say they can diagnose and help fix any problem with Oblivion or Fall Out. It sounds to me either like a script error (mod related perhaps as Sar said), a simple bug (Oblivion has lots - you can fix many by downloading the Unofficial Oblivion Patch from TESNexus which fixes a lot of in game bugs) or it could be a corrupted save.Check that the game is fully patched. Check that your drivers are all up to date.
If the problem persists install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch from the website I directed you to above. If that doesn't fix the issue, the save may have become corrupted - try starting a new game and seeing if the issue still occurs. If not, then the problem has become centred around that save, and you'll have to start a new game or load a save game before the issue was manifesting.Hope that helps,-Nih. You can lvl to lvl 60 without mods, and quite easily in facthigher lvls are possible but that needs planning+1 for the unofficial patch, and use lots of different saves (and save a lot, running around for an hour without autosave can be a real moodkiller when it finally crashes.)Personally I have 3 saves with differant character classes, 48, 37, 26, the latter being pure power levelling with +5 for all levels. I heard from the Bethesda site that after level 55 you are expected to have leveled up everything to 100 bar Luck which has a +1 indicator regardless, so effectively after 55 you should really not be leveling anymore, and any leveling is considered null and void. The mods that I uses or refer to change Oblivions leveling experience completely so the Lvl 100 is the highest level attainable. It fixes over 1,800 bugs that the last official patch did not fix.Anyway, I started a new game and I haven't had any problems.
Oblivion Crash Log
I think the save files may have gotten corrupted somehow.Note: Oblivion looks a hell of a lot better on the PC than it did on the XBOX360/PS3.
